Love Happy Hour - Lazy Ox Canteen Happy Hour: Take Two (Downtown Los Angeles)

The old adage goes: "two heads are better than one," and for me, that applies to happy hour too. Rumors of great food and drinks were put to rest last week when I visited the quaint Downtown Los Angeles restaurant Lazy Ox Canteen. The verdict: Lazy Ox Canteen in Little Tokyo has a happy hour that I would hit twice.

Owner Michael Cardenas, from IDG (BOA, Katana, Sushi Roku) has created a delicious dining retreat, attracting neighborhood regulars and newcomers looking for a casual atmosphere with flavorful food. You may also notice that the wine list (organized by General Manager Drew Myers) has its own personality, featuring boutique and international selections that are scarce on most restaurant menus, and recently they have also started making their own sparkling drinks.

But back to happy hour. Lazy Ox Canteen offers two happy hours: Monday through Friday, 5pm to 7pm and Sunday through Thursday, 10pm until close. Happy hour specials include half off beer on draught, house red and white wines and selected small plates. Some of the selected small plates that I adored included Country Crouton (grilled ciabatta, risotto, local honey, hazelnuts) and Eggplant Mutabal (roasted eggplant, cucumber, pomegranate, o.d. grapes, pine nuts). You can also order fun bar bites like Porn Bread and Pig Ear Chicharrones.

Country Crouton

So if your'e in the mood for a great Gastropub with some unique and tantalizing tapas, give Lazy Ox Canteen in Little Tokyo a try. And if you enjoy it, you'll get double the love.
